Islamabad’s public transport system has received a major boost as all 21 routes of the electric bus service have now become fully operational. The move aims to provide affordable, reliable, and environmentally friendly transportation to residents of the federal capital.

Growing Public Response to Electric Buses
Officials revealed that public response to the electric bus service continues to improve, with daily ridership increasing steadily. On a recent day alone, more than 102,000 commuters used the electric buses, reflecting growing trust in the system and rising demand for modern public transport.
Review Meeting on Islamabad Development Projects
The update was shared during a high-level meeting chaired by Muhammad Ali Randhawa, where progress on various ongoing and proposed development projects in Islamabad was reviewed. Senior officials, including members from administration, engineering, and planning departments, participated in the session.
Electric Bus Depots Near Completion
Authorities informed the meeting that construction work on electric bus depots at two locations is nearing completion, with 97 percent of the work already finalized. Work at Site A has been completed entirely, which will help ensure smooth operations and better maintenance of the electric bus fleet.
More Infrastructure Projects Underway
Apart from the electric bus network, officials also reviewed progress on the Margalla Avenue–M-1 Motorway link, along with updates on the Convention, Expo, and Exhibition Centre project. Discussions were also held on a proposed luxury hotel project, highlighting Islamabad’s broader urban development plans.
A Step Toward Sustainable Urban Transport
The full activation of all electric bus routes marks a significant step toward sustainable and modern urban mobility in Islamabad. By reducing fuel costs, emissions, and traffic pressure, the project aligns with the government’s vision of clean and accessible public transport for all citizens.
